DEFINITION

The Star of David, known in Hebrew as the Shield of David or Magen David is a generally recognized symbol of Jewish identity and Judaism. Its shape is that of a hexagram, the compound of two equilateral triangles, one pointing upwards and the other one pointing downwards.

In spiritual circles, the two triangles represent the dichotomies inherent in man: good vs. evil, spiritual vs. physical, darkness vs. light, or may also symbolize “Fire" and “Water”, or “Male” and “Female”, the active and passive components existing all over the universe.

In our everyday quest for balance, we strive to reconcile the opposites in order to bring harmony in our lives and the world around us. It is not easy to reach such a state and, even once achieved, this unity does not last on its own. We have to constantly labor to ACTIVATE THE SHIELD.

But once we feel this harmony, we all crave it because we realize then that we are part of the Divine, we understand Oneness and we feel protected.

CONCEPT

Because there is always this need to reconcile the opposite forces, I wanted to create a piece which would demonstrate this dynamic and bring awareness to the importance for the Jewish people and the state of Israel to seek this precious harmony. This is what I call “How to activate the Shield”. It is then and only then, that the Divine shield will be enabled to nourish us and fully protect us.

The large round object is a Microwave antenna 10 feet diameter

The antenna is covered with a collage of identifiable Jewish objects and characters from history and today, scientists and politicians, actors and soldiers, victims and heroes, men and women, victories and dark moments, children and ancestors.  ALL icons that carried the Jewish people over time.

On top of this background, in a silhouette, a recognizable map of Israel spray painted graffitti style.

And then two wires, each holding a triangle. One triangle (white) is travelling pointing upwards and the other one (blue) is travelling pointing downwards. Once the triangles reach each other, once the opposites accept to line up together, once the forces that complement each other reach their optimum, then the Light starts to shine, THE TWO TRIANGLES LIGHT UP, ONE IN WHITE AND THE OTHER IN BLUE, therefore creating the Star or Shield of David which will protect and shield the people and the land of Israel.

The wires are actionned by pulleys, two motor and a controller to decide the speed of movement of the triangles.

The meaning: when the Jewish people and/or the forces in presence in Israel are able to accept each other, when all differences are meshed into one, then and ONLY THEN the Star of David becomes a shield for the Jewish People and Israel
