The Dome of Meeting

A spiritual experience @Burning Man
Receiving a beam of divine light.

The Dome of Meeting, which is a modern metaphor for the Tent of Meeting(1), consists of a solar-powered GEODESIC DOME(2) where a GIANT HEBREW text of The Bible(3) is projected in a circular way on the inner walls, accompanied by a “MUSIC from GOD”(4) created on the fly and connected to the display of text. The generated music will activate an LED light show(5) while incense is burning.

With a magical mixture of the surrounding desert, dome effect, giant roving Hebrew letters, music, light and incense, senses will be stimulated and visitors will be enticed to connect spiritually. An experience conducive to spiritual connection, transformation and healing.

1 – “What is the tent of meeting?”

The phrase “tent of meeting” is used in the Old Testament, specifically in Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers, as another name for the Tabernacle of Moses, which was built after Moses descended from Mt. Sinai carrying the Law. In the Law, God gave the Israelites specific instructions (Exodus 25–27) to build a worshiping place that could be taken up and moved each time they changed locations while wandering in the wilderness. The word “tabernacle” is an English rendition of the Hebrew word mishkan, or “dwelling place.”

When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would arise and worship each at the entrance of his tent. Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend.

Interestingly, the word “tent” or “tabernacle” is also used in the New Testament to draw profound spiritual conclusions about salvation. Both Paul and the writer of Hebrews make a distinction between a heavenly tent and an earthly tent, between what was “built by human hands” and what is “not part of this creation”

2 – Geodesic Dome shielded in a “Black Fire” design covering

A geodesic dome is a sphere-like structure composed of a complex network of triangles. The triangles create a self-bracing framework that gives structural strength while using a minimum of material. The term geodesic is from Latin, meaning earth dividing. The idea of combining triangles with the arch was pioneered by German engineer Dr. Walther Bauersfeld when he designed the world’s first projection planetarium, built in Jena, Germany in 1922. However, it was Buckminster Fuller (“Bucky”) who popularized the concept of geodesic dome and to use one of them in this project is a nod to “Bucky”. The image of the geodesic dome is as futuristic a design in our modern society as it was when Fuller first created it, is an engineered structure which encloses space more efficiently than any other structure: the maximum amount of space is enclosed with a minimum of surface area and materials.

3 – Bible – Torah Text

According to Kabbalah, the primeval Bible which preceded the creation of the world was written ‘black fire upon white fire.’ It had no spaces between the words. Rather, it was a long string of letters. The pristine Bible in its original form had no spaces between the words — it was just a string of letters which could be broken up and interpreted in an infinite variety of ways.

4 – MUSIC from GOD connected to the display of Hebrew text

Ancient Tradition Speaks of Music in the Bible
For years, Uri Harel, an Israeli Hebrew teacher, was talking to everyone who was willing to listen about his idea of music in the Bible. Today, new evidence confirms the idea that the original text of the Hebrew Bible is multi-layered and goes much deeper than the surface story. Mysterious codes embedded in the text contain information that could not have been written by human hands. “Why,” Uri asked himself, “would one of the layers of this complex text not be music?” And if there is music in the text, how would one find it? The answer Uri came up with was to assign a musical note to each Hebrew letter and let the Bible “play itself…” Each Hebrew letter was assigned a tonal value according to a scheme grounded in Gematria (the science of the numerical values of the Hebrew letters) and Hebrew tradition. Then the text is ‘translated’ from a series of letters to a series of musical notes. Very talented, well-known musicians, with careful attention to sequence, phrasing, word breaks and vowel-sounds, scored the melody found in the text, and then produced a full-range musical piece from each one of the chapters translated. http://www.musicfromgod.com/music_samples/psalm_23.html

5 – LIGHTS connected to MUSIC

LED’s flashing to a musical soundtrack

Nothing beats a light show to music, and especially an LED light show. LEDs are light-emitting diodes that run on a very small amount of power. When connected to an audio source, such as a pair of computer speakers, the lights will flash in response to the pulses in the music.
